Give Me 5 Monday

Becca from BeccA’s Buzz has done it again! Another great Give Me 5!

The ‘Give Me Five’ Monday meme is designed to share fun information with each other in a simple, short list! Here’s how it works: Each week, I will put out a random topic from my list of topics and you share 5 answers of your choice on the given topic and link back here! You can add photos, links or stories or just a simple list of your own of 5 things that relate to the topic as it pertains to you and your life experiences. It doesn’t have to be in any order of importance unless otherwise specified.

1-  To Pierce or Not to Pierce (12/27/07)~  Guess I like this post because I decided to stand up to my stbx.  For years, he controlled me (or tried to), so it’s empowering to do what I think is right, whether he agrees or not.  Her birthday is in three weeks!

2-   Another Form of Family (12/16/07)~  This one is near and dear to my heart because it’s about my friends and how important they are to me.

3-  Perfectionism (12/12/07)~  I battle with this way too frequently.

4-  Teen Alcohol & Substance Abuse (1/25/08)~  Important info here!

5-  Top 10 Sex Myths Debunked (1/21/08)~   Found some entertaining stuff in the article that inspired this post.

I really loved all these posts. The piercing one…yeah tell me about it. My dad was quite a control freak too, back in the day. I have to agree very much with the friends are family thing…especially well stated for the women in our lives! If we could be perfect in any way, we wouldn’t need Jesus…I’m just saying. Great info on drugs and such for parents of teens…thanks for sharing that. And who doesn’t like to learn that men don’t actually want sex as much as they make it out…most people who have a mate would already agree, probably. Great GM5!!!

I’m a firm believer in letting kids express themselves through their appearance (within limits, I’m glad the midriff/writing on the rear end of pants thing seems to have tapered off)! I think letting your girl take this step will reinforce that you think she’s responsible enough to make decisions, which is a big thing.

Right now my family is my husband. The family to which I was born is too busy in their own lives to remember that I exist. It’s lonely sometimes, but I have quality!

I kinda miss my inner perfectionist… Since working on my depression/PTSD/mood disorder, all of my responsibilities have become ginormous. Thanks for reminding me that it’s not the end of the world! :)

  3. Maria [Immoral Matriarch] Says:

    LOVED the first one!

  4. Tammy Says:

I only did one not five, but if you check out my post you’ll understand. Yours is great, I liked the teen one, I have a 14 year old and this information is very useful to all parents.

  5. Comedy Plus Says:

All were very informative, but I really cringed with the teens alcohol and drugs one. I went through a horrible time with my son for some years. I’m so glad he is clean and sober now. Have a great GM5. :)

  6. Skittles Says:

I’m just glad I knew what stbx meant :)

  7. kelly Says:

I feel like another form of family applies to me. Since my son was adopted, I feel like we have this unique and really special element that bonds us together. Interesting stuff, here.

    I totally relate to number three… :)

  12. Tara R. Says:

#1 – I guess I am in good company, at 16 I let my daughter get her belly button pierced. Had to get a signed notary waiver and everything.

  13. Jenni Says:

Oh, I don’t like the reminders of what the teen years are going to be like. I’m covering my ears. I can’t hear you!

  14. dkaye Says:

Great post. I agree with you on allowing your daughter to get the piercing she wants. If it was on the lip – that’d be different.

Friends and family – sometimes it’s a thin line between the two, sometimes a gorge. I’m thankful mine’s somewhere inbetween. :)

  15. Misty Dawn Says:

@Jenni: It’s not all awful! LOL!
