Real World Mom Turns Five

With the chaos of the end of the semester, I totally missed Real World Mom’s anniversary in December! Nothing new really. I seem to miss it every year. Better late than never, right? :)

My very first post (of any substance) was on December 6, 2007. Seems so long ago. So much has changed since then!

So, happy anniversary to my much-loved, sometimes neglected blog! Thank you all for being a part of the past five years!

Next week, I will continue my journey as a college student–I’ll be a junior! This is something I never thought I would have the opportunity to do. I am blessed to have this chance. I’m nervous, but also very excited! Kean University, here I come!

Pool in backyard.

I love my pool! Thank you, Tim!

My finger nails painted purple.

Purple! It’s my favorite color. I’ve been trying out some funkier shades of nail polish than I normally wear.

Mug with "Life's a beach," and flip flops on it.

One of my all-time favorite coffee mugs! Love the message, the graphic, and its extra-large size!

My Addiction

Other than coffee, I am apparently addicted to flip flops. I can’t seem to help myself, especially after discovering the inexpensive selection at Old Navy, thanks to my daughter, B.

Summer is my favorite season. The beach, and the sun. No coats, long sleeves, or freezing my arse off when I go outside.

I’m happiest when I’m wearing shorts and a tank top, and, preferably, no shoes. But, since some type of footwear is necessary at times, flip flops just seem like the perfect compromise. The foot is protected, without a whole lot of shoe to annoy me.

Below is a photo of my current collection. I thought I had a lot until I gathered them up. It doesn’t seem like I have all that many now. Then again, it’s still quite early in the summer!

Definition of klutz: noun; clumsy person.

My name is Stacey, and I am a klutz. Doorknobs, tables, and dog toys are dangerous for me. Actually, most ordinary objects are. I can injure myself in pretty much any situation. And I have.

Here’s my most recent injury (it happened yesterday):

Index finger in a splint.

I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t remember how I did it. I think I was doing something with the laundry. Whatever it was, it was something that would have been harmless to anyone else. When it happened, I thought to myself, “That shouldn’t have hurt.”

Fortunately, it’s just a sprain. Unfortunately, it’s the index finger on my right hand. (It’s taking a long time to type this.)

Last month, I broke my toe when it collided with our big, and very heavy coffee table. It’s still not completely healed.

It could have been worse. I tore the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) in my left knee about seven years ago, when I stepped sideways. Yes, really. I was on a plane headed to Florida, to spend a long weekend with my best friend. I still went. It’s ok if you laugh, my surgeon did too! ;)

Tim is threatening to roll me up in bubble wrap to protect me from myself. I’m thinking it may not be such a bad idea. As long as it doesn’t cause me to have a heat stroke!
