Last night, I found out that Sam from Temporarily Me has been pregnant ‘forever’. Her friend Karen (Karen Sugarpants) wanted to try to cheer her up by throwing her a virtual baby shower, and having other moms share their overdue baby stories. Please visit Sam and leave her some words of encouragement!
My first child, D, was 15 [long] days late. He was due on June 17 but didn’t actually show up until July 2. Being June/July, it was hot, and I had gained about 50 pounds during my pregnancy; needless to say, I was a little cranky. Since this was my first child, I think I was more impatient than anything.
On the evening of July 1, I finally started having real contractions. I spoke to my doctor on the phone, then proceeded to take a shower and shave my legs. (Hubby thought I was crazy, but I wasn’t leaving the house without a shower!)
My baby D was born at 9:17 a.m. on July 2, 1987. All the crankiness and pregnancy discomfort was forgotten as I held my firstborn son.
Pregnancy number two also went past the due date. This time, by six [long] days. (Funny how the days seem much longer when you’re overdue!) I was much crankier that time. I hadn’t gained quite as much weight, but it was hot again and I wanted to be un-pregnant!
M was due on May 30 and finally arrived on June 5, 1989, at 2:18 a.m. (yeah, my boys liked the morning for some reason). Once again, the misery of the last couple of weeks was replaced with joy!
My average did improve with the next two children…
S (son #3) was born on October 22, 1991, at 6:55 a.m.–on his due date! (Thank you, S!)
And my daughter (baby #4), B, was born on March 23, 1995, at 5:07 p.m. Two days before her due date!
So, there is hope, Sam. And, one medical certainty: You will not be pregnant forever! Best of luck to you and your family! I want to see pics of the new arrival when you get the chance!
Send me a cup of java!

I was overdue by two days with my first. I cried both days hard because I was just so done with being pregnant.. I cannot imagine being overdue by 15.. I think I would have lost my mind.. ha.

mine was born on her due date, after 3+ weeks of false labour. personally, i think i would have chose late without the false labour, but *shrugs*

My firstborn arrived on her due date after only 2.5 hours of labor. My son came two weeks early… I labored with him for about 4 hours. Can’t say I had a tough time with either of mine.

Four of my four children were born premature, and in the hospital for months

With my first, I calculate her due date to be 12/9. The doc said 12/15. She was born on 12/8. BOO YA! LOL

My first-born arrived 2 1/2 weeks early due to the stress of the holiday season and being on my feet all day. ( Christmas Baby - made shopping easy ( or lack thereof ) He was 7 lbs 9 oz.
#2 was a few days late - 8 lbs. 14 oz
#3 also a few days late but 4 days too early to be a St. Paddy’s day baby. He was 8 lbs 13 oz.
I was spoiled by the first early delivery. Shopping is a good labor inducer. Matter of fact, shopping is great exercise! My advice: Shop till the baby drops!

Ah yes, the long days of the overdue pregnancy… I remember it well. Both of my girls were 2 weeks late and I was in labor for exactly 17 hours with each of them (not sure what happened to 2nd child supposing to be easier.) I guess I’m grateful that I only had to go through that part twice.:)

i was 8 days late with my son. he was supposed to be born june 5 and was born june 13th. i lived in vegas with scorching weather and gained about 50 lbs just like you. i had pre-elampsia which I didn’t know about til my last dr. visit. it turned into eclampsia at the hospital…blood pressure shot up, had 2 seizures (least 2 i could remember, and ended up being put to sleep for a c-sec. yeah, good times! LOL he will be 21 soon
as for my daughters: oldest born on due date Feb. 3, about 7 hrs of labor. i was induced. youngest born on feb. 22….6 days early due to induction and only about 4 hours of labor. doctor barely made it back for the birth LOL you can find all my kids’ stories on my blog. Mini-Me, Miss La-Di-Da-Di, and Brenden.

My sweetness Brennan’s birthday was March 22, 1995. Due dates are guesses in that the baby usually decides when they come out. My 17yo was born 2/9/91, 9 days early. Oldest was 2 days past. B was about 4 days early.
I miss you, haven’t seen you around lately. HUGS.

I actually never went past my due dates with either of mine. Son was 1 day early and daughter, 8 days early. Since they were both July babies…I am so friggin glad they weren’t late. I would go NUTS!

“You will not be pregnant forever!”
Ugh. Could have had me fooled. The 8 months I was pregnant felt like eternity . . .
But, oh so true. In the end–totally worth it!

i think this is more of a fiction… just to give the doc something to tell the patient.. hahaha… but i agree with some of the comments… when I was pregnant it felt like it is never going to end.. I was so relieved after I gave birth.. i wish somebody can carry the baby for me.
but in the end.. it was well worth it.

I can imagine how hard it would be to be overdue! I was early with both of mine (thank goodness). One by 2 days and one by 2 weeks. I know by the end of the pregnancy you are just so excited to see your baby. Best wishes to her.
