Ah! Now I Know!

I saw this on Sexy Housewife’s blog (check it out!), and thought I’d give it a try.

Looks like I missed my calling!

You Should Be a Doctor

You are practical, sharp, and very intuitive.
Optimistic and energetic, you are a problem solver who doesn’t get discouraged easily.
You are also quite compassionate and caring. You make people feel hopeful.
You’re highly adaptable and capable. You do well with almost any curve ball life throws at you.
You do best when you:- Are always learning new subjects
- Use your knowledge to solve problems

You would also be a good therapist or detective.

What Should You Be When You Grow Up?

Cell Phone

Something I never really thought about, until I read this article, but are text messages saved like most email?

Apparently, the answer is no. Text messages are only saved for brief periods of time–just long enough to make sure they were delivered. (Do I hear a collective sigh of relief? *Grin*)

This article mentions how flirty text messages between Detroit’s mayor and one of his aides surfaced after an investigation. However, the type of messaging system used by these [unfortunate] folks was Narrowband PCS, which is more like email than texting (which is SMS or Short Message Service technology), and generally is stored for “legal reasons”.

It’s an interesting story, and a good reminder that all of our electronic communications should be regarded as public information, because you never know where they may end up!

I took this cool idea from “A Whole Lot of Nothing”–but she told me to, I swear! Sounds like a lot of fun so thought I’d post it as well!

Quick Interview Update

January 25th, 2008
Posted in Career, Life | No Comments »

Ya know how sometimes you come away with a feeling about how an interview went? You’re sure you’re gonna get a call offering you the job–or, you’re sure you freakin’ blew it? Well, I’m somewhere in the middle… There was really nothing said that gave me a clue one way or the other. Guess I just have to wait till they’re finished interviewing (sometime next week) and see what happens…

Dare I Hope?

The soon-to-be-ex has finally made a settlement offer that appears as if he may be trying to negotiate a little bit!  Of course, it wasn’t nearly everything I had asked for (which isn’t much!), so I counter-offered, showing (once again) that I’m willing to compromise if he is.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up that the end could really be near, but I just can’t help it!  We’ve been separated for over 16 months now, and it would be so nice just to be divorced at last!  So, I can’t help it, I’m an optimistic person by nature, I’m hoping this is it!

Wonder how long I’ll have to wait for his response this time…

One of our worst nightmares as a parent is to imagine our kids consuming drugs or alcohol. As uncomfortable as it may be to even think about, my mantra is, “Knowledge is power,” so the more informed we are, the better the chance we have to avoid that situation–or, God forbid, deal with it should it arise.

I came across a good article on Yahoo Health on this subject, and thought it was worth blogging about. “Teen Alcohol and Drug Abuse” offers insight on why teens try drugs and alcohol, what substances they may use, the signs of use, how to try to prevent kids from experimenting, some information on different types of illegal drugs and what to do if you think your child may be experimenting with these substances or have a substance abuse problem.

There are additional links from the story on how addictions develop, things that may increase the risk of substance abuse and information about treatment.

As much as the whole idea of drugs and alcohol may instill a feeling of sheer panic, it’s better to have the facts before a problem arises.

The ‘Big Day’

January 24th, 2008
Posted in Career, Life | 2 Comments »

Well, tomorrow (Friday) is ‘interview day’. I’m a nervous wreck!

I’ve got (most of ) my outfit picked out and copies of my resume ready to go. Now I just have to hope my brain–and mouth–don’t fail me!

It’s for a retail company, possibly a management position, and I’m not particularly thrilled about continuing down the retail road. However, I’ve been out of work since September 28 of last year, so I’m not in a position to turn anything down. But, as I said in my last interview post, finding/getting a job is almost always easier when you don’t really need it, so if I end up with one I don’t love, I can always keep looking!

Of Dogs and Cars

One of Madison’s favorite things to do is go for a ride in the car. And she’s always very good! However, never in a million years did we expect to see Princess Maddie alone in a car with Aunt Vicki (who loves Madison, but is leary of dogs)! (I know the photo is somewhat unclear, but we had to preserve this moment in history!)
