Cell Phone

Something I never really thought about, until I read this article, but are text messages saved like most email?

Apparently, the answer is no. Text messages are only saved for brief periods of time–just long enough to make sure they were delivered. (Do I hear a collective sigh of relief? *Grin*)

This article mentions how flirty text messages between Detroit’s mayor and one of his aides surfaced after an investigation. However, the type of messaging system used by these [unfortunate] folks was Narrowband PCS, which is more like email than texting (which is SMS or Short Message Service technology), and generally is stored for “legal reasons”.

It’s an interesting story, and a good reminder that all of our electronic communications should be regarded as public information, because you never know where they may end up!

I have a rule when using any type of communications: Assume the worst.

When sending emails, texts or even making blog posts, you should assume anyone can see what you have written. Imagine the worst scenario. Even though I blog anonymously, I try to imagine what would happen if the object of my post were to read it. How would they react? If I could live with the most likely outcome, then no problem.

I haven’t even figured out the camera on my phone, much less texting! I did finally figure out how to check my minutes by having the carrier send me a text message, but up until that point, I had no clue.

What I wouldn’t give for an old-timey cell phone - just the buttons and the ear/mouth piece, please! None of this other fancy-schmancy stuff!

Hi Judy! I know what you mean about all the bells and whistles–it’s way over my head! When I have a question, I usually ask one of my kids! :-)
